Over a week of mountain biking and freeriding, Crankworx 2018 is slowly coming to an end. Known as the biggest mountain biking festival of the year, it attracts some pretty big names in the riding community.
The MIX caught up with one of the best freeride mountain bikers in the world, Darren ‘Bearclaw’ Berrecloth. He went for a rip with our team and later, spoke with us and gave us an update on his career, passion for riding, and experience with Red Bull and Crankworx.
“[Whistler] is pretty much the birthplace of slopestyle and this is the spot to be this weekend in B.C. and pretty much anywhere in the world if you’re into mountain biking,” says Berrecloth. “It’s the biggest event of its kind and there’s a lot of prestige that goes with that as well.”
In addition to being a professional mountain biker, his social media bios also states he’s a “globetrotter, freerider, snowmobiler, surfer, snowboarder, fisherman, and hunter-gatherer.” The Canadian rider has been doing this for most of his life and says that the “passion will always be there.”
Although some people fizzle out, Berrecloth is fortunate to have a network of people that always backs him up and supports him on his journey.
“Red Bull is by far the sickest company to be partnered with. Whatever dream or idea I have, they’re always behind me. They always stand behind my projects. Whatever crazy dreams I can come up with, they always stand behind me and say, ‘Yup. Let’s do this.'”
