Meet CRESCENDO1, Part Of The Team Behind Vancouver’s First Hip-Hop Music Festival BREAKOUT

Arts & Music

Finally, a festival for the hip-hop fanatics.

Migos, Tory Lanez, 6lack, and more are coming through Vancouver for the city’s first all hip-hop music festival, BREAKOUT Festival.

On June 9th and 10th, the PNE amphitheatre will host the all-ages BREAKOUT festival allowing hip-hop and R&B lovers to check out local and international artists on the lineup. In addition to the music, attendees can hit up food trucks, bars, merch stands, and even Playland’s amusement park.

The festival was founded by CRESCENDO1, a music platform dedicated to Vancouver’s up-and-coming hip-hop and R&B artists. After partnering up with Timbre Concerts, BREAKOUT was born.

We spoke with the guys of CRESCENDO1 to hear more about the platform and the creation of the new festival.

“My goal is to have a platform, CRESCENDO1, that could within a year or two break an artist into international stardom,” says founder Johnny Black. “[The artists] can go on tour, earn a living, and they can employ people. And they can do it while living in Vancouver.”

Although Black acts as a music manager, event producer, and business owner, he doesn’t do everything all on his own. There is a small but mighty team alongside him, all working towards the same goal. Audio engineer Kal Capone is one of the key members of the group. Together, the two of them host their weekly radio shows discussing the latest in Vancouver’s hip-hop scene.

When it came to coming up with naming the new festival, BREAKOUT co-founder Johnny Black revealed the term was encompassing of the platform and event.

“I googled the definition of breakout and it’s like, ‘suddenly popular or successful.’ On the day we announced the lineup, all tickets went on sale, all the websites crashed. My goal is to just get the festival as big as possible in Vancouver.”

If you want to catch the new festival, tickets are currently being sold online. Single day tickets start at $129 while two-day passes are on Tier 4 and start at $199. If you’re feeling a little fancy, you can also opt-in for VIP access. But for all of the broke students out there that are dying to see Lil Pump in the flesh, we’ve got you covered.
