Check Out These Must-See Hot Spots in Toronto’s Kensington Market

Food & Drink

Kensington Market is a must-see place when you’re hitting up Toronto. But with so much art, culture, food and attractions, it can be hard to narrow down the list of places to check out. Fortunately, The MIX has got your covered.

Our Toronto producer Meghan Kraft has curated a list of some of the hottest spots in the Kensington area. From food to clothes, here are some joints that you need to check out.

Film Café by Eative

230 Augusta Ave, Toronto, M5T 2L6

Since their humble beginnings, Eative Film Café has transformed from a gelato shop into a full-on café. Their selection of menu items has expanded and offers Japanese-inspired beverages and food like Japanese street food, sushi, and even 24k gold ice cream. The café also offers fruit smoothies, nitro brewed coffee and more. The business is well-known for using gold leaf on their items. If ice cream isn’t your thing, customers can also get other gold-leafed food items.

El Trompo

277 Augusta Ave, Toronto, ON M5T 2L7

Founded by Hector and Lucero Lopex, the local business brings Kensington a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine. Whether you’re down for brunch, lunch, dinner, or dessert, the menu is filled with tasty dishes like huevos rancheros, chicharon de queso, tacos, fajitas, churros and more. If you aren’t able to make a stop to the restaurant location, you may be lucky to catch their food truck parked around Toronto.

Ronnie’s Local 069

Enjoying a pint on the patio when who should walk by? Brad Marchand. In disguise. Giving in to his vices.

The Toronto staple has been here since the 50s, making it the local go-to spot in Kensington. If you’re looking for cheap pitchers, live music, and a chill environment, then Ronnie’s hits everything on that list. Although we don’t want to encourage day drinking, let’s just say that the patio is the perfect place to enjoy some summertime brews.

Space Vintage

Fashions fade, style is eternal. Find your one-of-a-kind clothing at Space Vintage in Kensington. From classic retro dresses to modern hipsteresque items, the attire you’ll find here is bound to be as unique as you. Although not everyone may be a fan of thrifting, purchasing second-hand clothing is a great way to reduce the amount of massive material waste in the landfills. Follow the red lights to get to this funky spot in Kensington. Cold Tea is a hidden backyard patio restaurant that serves up Asian cuisine and barbeque. And inside the Cold Tea is a new little snack bar called Juanm0t0. They’re serving up plates like charcoal-grilled, then fried Teriyakitori Wings, Silken Tofu Guacamole with house-made taro chips, miso ice cream sandwiches, and more. Grab a bite to eat while vibing out to some sweet tunes.
