In honour of Cinco de Mayo, our producers Christine Michelle and Mia Metz, hit up some local Mexican spots to give locals an idea of the different types of tacos and tequila that our city has to offer.
From authentic cuisine to west coast twists, the girls dropped by three joints to see how each location sets itself apart from its competitors.

Out of the three spots, the producers thought that La Casita had the most authentic take on Mexican cuisine. Based out of Gastown, the Mexican restaurant includes staples like nachos, ceviche, tostadas, and more. The menu even includes gluten-free and vegetarian options for customers looking for these alternatives. And if you’re just looking for drinks, La Casita is also known for their massive margaritas.
For foodies wanting a different take on Mexican food, Tacofino adds a west coast spin. Inspired by the L.A. punk rock surf and skate scene of the 80’s and 90’s, the location’s environment has a cool vibe that’s perfect for casual get-togethers. Customers rolling up here should expect a unique twist on Mexican cuisine.
If you want the biggest bang for your buck then you may want to hit up Pawn Shop during happy hour. As long as you buy a beverage, tacos are just $1.25! Talk about a freaking bargain. They even have gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. This hot spot is perfect for those who want to eat cheap – without skimping on the flavour.
