Umaluma Dairy-Free Gelato: Saving Our Planet One Scoop at a Time

Umaluma gelato - Good for the planet and for the soul.

Food & Drink

Climate change is real y’all and it’s time for humans to do their part to stop it.  It’s been known for a while that the meat and dairy industry are massive contributing factors to global warming. We understand that not everyone wants to adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet, but come on, at least try and make an effort to limit your meat and dairy intake.   Now that plant-based diets are on the rise, it’s easier than ever to enjoy delightful food alternatives without sacrificing taste.

Umaluma Gelato is doing exactly that. The dairy-free gelato joint is giving ice cream a run for its money. Despite the lack of dairy, customers have been raving over the smooth, creamy, and tasty flavours. With over 35 regular and revolving flavours on the menu, there’s a good chance there’ll be something for everyone.

“The magic of Umaluma started with the simple desire to create a super healthy, organic, non-dairy alternative to traditional Italian gelato — the yummy stuff that’s creamy, smooth and bursting with flavour.” – Umaluma Website

Most of the gelato is made with a cashew nut butter base mixed with coconut milk or hemp-seed milk, while the sorbettos are made from fruit. Customers can grab classic flavours like varying types of vanilla and chocolate, or get something funky like lemongrass kaffir, black sesame, or horchata. And for a limited time, there’s even a pumpkin pie flavour option to get you into the holiday season.
