A Toronto Woman has been charged with witchcraft. 27-year-old Samantha Stevenson committed an ‘evil spirit blessing scam’ that took over $600,000 from an elderly man.

Under the fake name Evanna Lopez, Samantha Stevenson convinced the 67-year-old man that there were evil spirits living in his house. To get rid of them, the man would have to sell his house and transfer the money into her account.

Stevenson was going to hold the money until the spirits were gone, and then return it to the elderly man. But, police said she never transferred the money back. She also requested an additional $6,000 to burn in order to further ward off the spirits.

Police said the man then sold his car and used credit cards and ‘other sources’ to keep up with the demands. Stevenson has been charged with pretending to practise witchcraft, fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
