Starting January 8th, cannabis and cannabis accessories will be available at Shoppers Drug Mart.
However, here’s the catch: purchases can only be made online for medical marijuana. If you were hoping to grab some last minute kush at your local drug store, you’re out of luck.
“As trusted medication experts, pharmacists have an important role to play in the safe and informed use of medical cannabis,” said Shoppers Drug Mart president Jeff Leger. “Medical cannabis, like any prescribed medication, requires the same level of counsel from a healthcare professional. As medical cannabis is increasingly prescribed to Canadians for its therapeutic benefits, our goal is to enhance the service and support that patients receive through this process.”
Before you get started, customers will have to register and provide a completed medical document signed by their healthcare professional. The medical document can be dropped off at a local Shoppers Drug Mart, mailed to Medical Cannabis by Shoppers Drug Mart in Ontario, or faxed to 1-866-220-2627. Once the documents have been verified, you’ll be able to start shopping for cannabis.
The only shop offers products from Aphria, Aurora, Broken Coast, Cannimed, Emblem, and Tilray. Customers can also choose from dried cannabis or cannabis oil in various strains. Accessories are also available for purchase.
Currently, the online shop is only able to serve patients in Ontario. Shoppers Drug Mart hopes that the company will be able to start serving patients across the country soon.
